Household Water Use Central Coast
The Central Coast, like most of New South Wales, is experiencing the worst drought since records began in 1896.
Statistically, this drought is worse than a one in 250 year event.

Households account for more than 70% of our total water consumption.
Almost one quarter of that is used in the garden.
One square metre of roof will collect a litre of rainwater for every millimetre of rainfall.

So, if your roof measures 160 square metres and there’s five millimetres of rain, you could collect up to 800 litres.
Rainwater collected in tanks provides a renewable supply of clean, natural water that can be used for a range of purposes indoors and outdoors.

As of January 1, 2003, houses in Gosford and Wyong Local Government Areas must be fitted with a rainwater tank with a minimum capacity of 5,000 litres.
